The Governors incurred a struggling Monday, shooting an opening-round 312 before slipping to a 326 in the afternoon as the Governors’ 638 left them in 15th place after the opening day on the par-71, 7,300-yard layout.

“It was a long day out on the golf and the guys obviously didn’t play well,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson said. “We struggled getting the ball off the tee for most of the day, causing several double bogeys.

“Our game plan was good, but our execution was not.”

Senior Tyler Phillips was the only Gov to shoot below 80 in each round, firing 75-78 for a 153. Fellow senior Chris Baker shot an opening-round 76 before struggling to an 83 afternoon round (159 total) while the Govs’ third senior, Austin Kramer, was at 79-81 (160). Junior Erik Hedberg came in at 82-84 (166) while sophomore Alex Rios shot 88-84 (172).

No. 23 California led after the first day with a 584, followed by No. 39 East Tennessee (586) and No. 55 Purdue (588).

A trio of seniors—Austin Kramer, Chris Baker and Tyler Phillips—will play the Nos. 1-3 slots Monday, with sophomore Alex Rios and junior Erik Hedberg holding the final two lineup positions. Kramer, Phillips and Rios tied for APSU;’s best finish (27th) at even-par 216 while Baker was one shot back.

Live Scoring: There will be live scoring (every 3-6 holes) available through BirdieFire (http://bit.ly/1NtNa7G).
