APSU guitar professor Stanley Yates to present free concert to Clarksville community

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Dr. Stanley Yates, Austin Peay State University professor of music, will present a recital of solo guitar music at 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 30th, in the Mabry Concert Hall in the APSU Music/Mass Communications Building. The concert is free and open to the public.

Yates’ program will include selections from his critically-acclaimed transcriptions of music by Bach, Vivaldi and Albéniz; Venezuelan music by Antonio Lauro; and a recent work based on Indian ragas written by Dutch composer Annette Kruisbrink.

Yates is known for his best-selling music editions and internationally-acclaimed Bach recording, along with his widely published scholarly articles. These articles have been published in 10 languages.

He has also established an international performing career, performing throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in Australia, Asia and South America.

He is featured in the standard reference work, “The Classical Guitar: Its Evolution, Players and Personalities Since 1800” and “Instrumental Influences: Reflections on the Classical Guitar from the Instrument’s Most Influential Performers and Pedagogues,” and he has been described by the Journal of the Guitar Foundation of America as “one of the leading pedagogues of our era.”

During his time at APSU, Yates has received the Hawkins Award for Scholarly and Creative Achievement, a Distinguished Artist Award from Bergen College in New Jersey and an APSU Presidential nomination for the Robert Cherry Outstanding Teaching Award. That is a national teaching award sponsored by Baylor University.
