Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for October 4th, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Youth Basketball League registration, Movies in the Park, Haunted Swim and One Frightful Night Costume Contest.

Haunted Swim

Youth Basketball League

Registration ends October 5th

Is your child interested in playing basketball this winter? Clarksville Parks and Recreation is proud to offer a Youth Basketball League for boys and girls ages 7 to 15. The cost is $65.00 per player and includes jersey, water bottle and award.

Registration is available at the Kleeman Community Center, Crow Community Center and Burt-Cobb Community Center, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com . First time registrants must bring their birth certificate for age verification.

Practices will be held at local school gymnasiums beginning November 2nd and games will be held on Saturdays, beginning December 5th, at the City’s three community centers.

If you’re also interested in a leadership role on the court, we are seeking coaches. Clarksville Parks and Recreation will offer coaches’ training on October 13th and 15th at 6:00pm at Freedom Point at Liberty Park. Movies in the Park

Final screening of the 2015 Movies in the Park season, October 10th

Don’t miss your chance to see Star Trek Into Darkness on the big screen Saturday, October 10th as the final showing of the 2015 Movies in the Park series.

Admission is free. The movie screening will begin at sunset, 6:45pm at Liberty Park Amphitheater, located at 1188 Cumberland Drive. Food will be available for purchase on-site. Guests are invited to bring picnic baskets, blankets, and lawn chairs. Please leave your pets and alcohol at home.

In the event of rain, our outdoor movie screenings may unfortunately have to be cancelled. Please refer to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/clarksvillemovies for updates about weather cancellations.

Haunted Swim

The Indoor Aquatic Center plans to scare up fun and thrills at its annual Haunted Swim

The Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will be scaring up some Halloween fun at their annual Haunted Swim on Saturday, October 17th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

Haunted Swim is a family-friendly event featuring frightful lifeguards, swimming, music, games, and access to the Wibit inflatables. Children ages 12 and under can even take home a free pumpkin with paid admission all day October 17th, while supplies last.

Cost to attend is $4.00 per person, including adults. Pre-registration is not required, attendees can pay at the door.

One Frightful Night Costume Contest

Registration is now open

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Altra Federal Credit Union and the downtown businesses to present One Frightful Night, also known as Fright on Franklin, on Saturday, October 31st from 3:00pm to 6:00pm in downtown Clarksville.

One Frightful Night is a free, family-friendly event featuring safe trick-or-treating, costume contests, and much more! Once again, pre-registration for the costume contests is required. There will be no registration the day of the event.

Contest participants can register now at the Parks and Recreation office or online at www.cityofclarksville.com/fright to participate. Register early, spots fill up quickly!

The contest times and age groups are as follows:

  • 3:15pm – Ages 0-2
  • 3:45pm – Ages 3-6
  • 4:15pm – Ages 7-9
  • 4:45pm – Ages 10-12
  • 5:15pm – Groups

All costumes should be in good taste and appropriate for a family event. Registrants are asked to arrive 15-minutes prior to their scheduled time to check-in.
