Austin Peay State University Tennis players Aaron Jumonville, Manuel Montenegro fall at ITA Championships

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUTulsa, OK – Juniors Aaron Jumonville and Manuel Montenegro, of Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team, fell in the prequalifying and consolation stages at the Saint Francis ITA Men’s All-American Championships this weekend.

The invitational, which featured the game’s top players from nearly 80 schools, began with the prequalifying bracket, Saturday.

Both Jumonville and Montenegro dropped matches before gaining a spot in the consolation group.

Jumonville was narrowly defeated by John Goodwin, of Texas, 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3, before falling to another Longhorn, Harrison Scott, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, in the consolation round.

Montenegro was knocked off by UC Irvine’s Tyler Pham, 6-1, 6-4, in the opening match. Sunday, the Spaniard was upended by William Jou, of Texas, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3.

The Govs will regroup before competing in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Knoxville, TN, October 15th-19th.
