Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announces School Resource Officers Division receives new Mascot

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is proud to announce the newest member to the School Resource Officers (SRO) Division. Mascot “Copper the K-9” has officially reported for duty.

Sergeant Carlos Silva and SRO Chad Smith discussed having an official mascot at the beginning of the school year. Deputy Smith, who already owned a K-9 costume, said he would be willing to donate his costume to the SRO Division. After long discussions and planning sessions between Smith, Silva, and Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson, the mascot was developed.

SRO Smith debuted Copper to Woodlawn Elementary School’s Kindergarten classes while making a presentation about law enforcement to the students.

“All of the students loved seeing Copper, they couldn’t wait to give him a hug, and have their picture made with him,” said Smith. “It was a huge success, I’m very excited about taking Copper to the other schools.”

Copper the K-9 is available to all Montgomery County Schools for appearances during events and safety classes. The goal of having a mascot is to help reinforce a positive image of law enforcement to younger children. Copper the K-9 will also be available for any public event attended by the Sheriff’s Office.
