Trailing 3-2, junior Gina Fabbro knotted the score after collecting a cross from sophomore Kirstin Robertson to power it into the back of the net.

However, less than a minute later, Hurt put a shot on goal which just deflected off the keeper’s hands for the game-winner.

The Lady Govs (6-6, 2-2 OVC) tested JSU (6-6-1, 3-1-1 OVC) with three shots in the early stages, which led to the opening score in the 28th minute. With free kick specialist, junior Nicole Wojcik, on the ball, she delivered a winding cross to Fabbro in the box who supplied the goal. With her two goals on the evening, the Canadian now has seven this season and 21 for her career.

Jacksonville State answered back in the 32nd minute, with Justine Panchuk scoring a header off a corner kick. Seconds before halftime, Claire Petersen tallied a long-distance goal, shooting from 25 yards out to beat the horn.

Coming out of the break, the Gamecocks continued its momentum with a 48th minute score to extend the lead to 3-1. Petersen found a crease in the attacking third to find a look at goal.

However, the resilient Lady Govs would not shy away. Freshman McKenzie Dixon maintained her offensive spark with a 59th minute goal, dribbling past a defender to place a shot in the top left corner. Dixon has recorded nine goals in 2015, with scores in seven of the last eight games.

Fabbro led Austin Peay in shots with four, three of which were on goal. Kelsey Bright paced the Gamecocks with a game-high five shots, helping JSU hold a 16-12 shot advantage.

JSU’s Caroline Robinson earned the win in net, while sophomore Lindsey Todd took the loss with four saves made.

Austin Peay continues its weekend slate with an away match at Belmont, 3:00pm, Sunday.
