Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for October 11th, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Haunted Swim, Float event for canoe and kayak, Fort Defiance offers haunting experience and Swim Lessons.

Haunted Swim

The Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will be scaring up some Halloween fun at their annual Haunted Swim on Saturday, October 17th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.

Haunted Swim is a family-friendly event featuring frightful lifeguards, swimming, music, games, and access to the Wibit inflatables. Children ages 12 and under can even take home a free pumpkin (while supplies last).

Cost to attend is $4.00 per person, including adults. Pre-registration is not required, attendees can pay at the door.

Float the River with Clarksville Parks and Recreation

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is excited to host a float event for canoe and kayak enthusiasts!

Saturday, October 24th – Hickory Point to Liberty Park (approx. 10 miles)

Participants must drop off canoes/kayaks at Hickory Point by 7:00am then drive their vehicle to the Liberty Park boat ramp. Transportation will be provided and will leave Liberty Park boat ramp area by 7:35am. Plan on being in the water by 8:00am.

Participants will need to have their own canoe/kayak & life jacket and the float is FREE of charge. Life jackets must be worn at all times. Need equipment?

Fort Defiance offers haunting experience for the public

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will host its Halloween at Fort Defiance event on Friday, October 30th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the fort located at 120 Duncan Street.

Visitors are invited to gather around the bonfire to listen to haunting historical tales of woe and terror. Don’t be afraid, Fort Defiance isn’t haunted…we think!

This event is free and open to the public.

Register now for November Swim Lessons

The Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, offers six comprehensive course levels of swim lessons, open to ages 6 months to adult, to teach students how to swim skillfully and safely as well as Adaptive Swim Lessons for those with special needs.

The complete list of swim lessons is available online for registration at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. Next session begins November 2nd so be sure to register before classes are filled! Cost is $35.00 per session, or $15.00 with a pool pass.

Would you rather have one-on-one instruction? We now offer private swim lessons! Private Swim Lessons are available by reservation only and include a minimum of four, 45-minutes sessions for $110.00.
