Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior Jessica Cathey, of the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Cathey won her first career collegiate golf tournament at this week’s F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, posting a two-round 145 (74-71) to win the tournament by six strokes. It was the first tournament win for an APSU women’s golfer since Tala Mumford won the UAB Beach Blast in 2013.

Making a tournament-high 30 pars, Cathey’s consistency helped her pull away, Tuesday. While Day One leader Samantha Griffith of Lipscomb shot a 78, Cathey posted the tournament’s best round with a career-best one-under 71, leading Austin Peay back from an eight-shot deficit for its first tournament title since 2002.

Wednesday, Cathey was named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week, her third career weekly honor from the conference office and her first in 2015-16.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Redshirt freshman running back Kendall Morris, of the football team, earned OVC Newcomer of the Week honors after his 136-yard performance at Murray State, Saturday.
