Fort Campbell and 101st Airborne Division to host Spartan Obstacle Race

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – On October 24th, thousands of athletes and fitness enthusiasts will converge on the Cassidy Combined Arms Collective Training Facility/Bastogne Landing Zone at Fort Campbell. KY when the installation and the 101st Airborne Division play host to The Spartan Race. Spartan Race, voted Outside magazine’s Best Obstacle Race, is obstacle racing’s ultimate test of endurance and strength.

The three-plus mile foot race features more than 20 different obstacles including a barbed wire crawl, water pit, wall climb and fire jump.

“Fort Campbell is a world-class venue on scenic and challenging terrain that will offer our athletes an exciting new opportunity to test themselves,” says Joe De Sena, Spartan Race Founder and CEO. “We are excited that Fort Campbell is supporting the explosive growth of the sport of obstacle racing as we challenge participants to test their limits and see what they’re capable of achieving.”

The Spartan Race is open to military personnel and civilians of all ages and fitness levels. There’s even a mini obstacle course designed for the youngest of Spartans, children ages 4 to 13.

“We are excited to offer our Soldiers, Families, and members of the local communities the opportunity to participate in a Spartan Race right here in their back yard.  Regardless of experience level, everyone who participates will be challenged and have a great time,” said Catherine Walker, Fort Campbell MWR Special Events Manager.

The Spartan Race will kick off with the Elite Men’s group at 7:30am followed by the Elite Women group at 7:45am. After that, waves of 250+ racers will be released every 15 minutes.

“It has been great partnering with Spartan and having them bring the race to us.  This allows Soldiers, family members, local and some not so local civilians to participate, said Brian Carrigan, Fort Campbell DPTMS Chief of Plans. “Spartan races typically bring in some A-plus athletes to run these events which are conducted throughout the world. We have our own A-plus athletes right here at Fort Campbell that will get after it on the 24th.”

Racers and spectators can pre-register online, or sign up the day of the race at Fort Campbell beginning at 6:00am. Military and first responders are eligible to receive a discount.
