The Lady Govs (6-9-0, 2-5-0 OVC) have now lost four consecutive matches, all by one goal.

In addition, three of the most recent defeats have been decided by a 2-1 score line. The Eagles (8-8-1, 5-2-0 OVC) maintain their second-place position in the standings, while APSU drops to 10th.

Austin Peay came out strong to open the contest, controlling the possession battle throughout much of the first half. After 45 minutes, the Lady Govs held a 5-1 shot advantage, led by senior Shelby Olszewski who put two shots high.

APSU Gina FabbroComing out of the break, the Lady Govs notched the first score as junior Gina Fabbro settled on the ball. Following a turn inside at the 18-yard stripe, Fabbro played a short pass to Wojcik, who fired past the keeper’s right side. It’s the seventh goal for the newcomer, giving Wojcik 16 points on the year.

But in the 55th minute, Morehead State turned the stables with two goals in a two-minute span.

Off a corner kick by Teig Palmateer, Kimberly Golden gathered a loose ball to find the back of the net. In the 57th minute, Macy Kootz found space after collecting a pass from Abby Timm, who powered a shot from just outside the box for the game-winning goal.

APSU Nicole Wojcik“We have to have a no letup mentality,” APSU head coach Kelley Guth said. “You can’t go ahead in a game and assume it’s under your control. For us, we haven’t played with the same level of intensity to sustain a win. We need to keep the momentum going in our favor.”

Junior Mary Ruth Locastro tied for the team lead in shots with three on the afternoon, which included two long-range free kicks that required saves, while Olszewski also recorded three.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Todd took the loss for APSU in net, giving Morehead’s Michelle Washburn the victory.

Austin Peay continues its three-match homestand, 7:00pm, Friday, when the Lady Govs take on Eastern Illinois.
