The Governors return three starters from the 2014-15 season—center Chris Horton, forward/guard Khalil Davis and guard Josh Robinson.

On Tuesday, it was announced Horton was named to the Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference basketball team. The 6-8 post player led the Govs in scoring (13.1 ppg) and the OVC in rebounding (11.1 rpg) as a junior.

The Lady Govs, meanwhile, return four starters from a team that narrowly lost in the first-round OVC tournament play last spring. Leading the way again is senior Tiasha Gray, who averaged 21.2 ppg per game last season while being chosen OVC Defensive Player of the Year after finishing second in the nation in steals per game. She was named 2015-16 OVC Media Preseason Player of the Year.

Also back are forwards Brianne Alexander, Beth Rates and guard Madison Rich.

Surrounding the scrimmage will be a trio of dodgeball matches, staged by University Recreation.

Season-ticket holders and prospective season-ticket purchasers will be treated to a Wendy’s chili dinner that night while APSU students will be served pizza. APSU athletics also will be giving away $1,000 in prizes that night in addition to t-shirts and schedule posters.

The event formerly known as Midnight Magic had a different tone when it served as a tip-off to the first official practice for the Governors and Lady Govs basketball teams. NCAA rule changes have created a lengthened preseason calendar, allowing the teams to start practice in early October.
