This two-day, 36-hole tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday on a par-72, 6,246-yard layout.

Traditionally, the Lady Govs have played well in this event.

In 2013, Tala Mumford tied for medalist honor in the event while current senior Jessica Cathey has two fourths and a third place in her three previous Beach Blasts.

APSU Jessica Cathey“We always look forward to this event,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “It is a great venue to cap off the fall season and we typically put up some good numbers. Due to the rain we received early this week the girls were able to get some much-needed rest and now are anxious to get back out there and play.

“We need to do a good job of staying focused; hitting greens; and committing to every shot.”

The Lady Govs have enjoyed an improving fall, including a first-place finish in their own tournament (F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate) and a fifth place at Murray State.

APSU's Morgan KauffmanCathey again will lead the Lady Govs in a field that also will feature three other Ohio Valley Conference teams—Belmont, Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech. In addition to host UAB, Alabama State, Lamar McNeese State, Southern Miss, South Dakota, Troy and Western Kentucky also will be participating.

Joining Cathey will be the freshman twins Taylor and Ashton Goodley and junior Morgan Kauffman. The final spot will be determined Sunday between juniors Morgan Gardner and Kelsey Schutt, with the other playing as an individual.

“We need to put two good tournament days together for us to have a successful end to our fall season,” Robson said.
