Tennessee Bureau of Investigation seeking information in 1980 Stewart County Double Homicide Investigation

Tennessee Bureau of InvestigationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a subject wanted for questioning in connection to an ongoing homicide investigation from 1980.

On September 17th, 1980, Carla Atkins and Vickie Stout left their home in Dover, Tennessee, Stewart County to walk approximately one mile to a store. They were last seen about 3:30pm on that date as they were walking back home on State Route 79.

Witnesses reported seeing a blue truck in the area and also reported seeing Carla and Vickie approaching the truck and its driver.

Authorities found their bodies three weeks later by hikers in what is now known as Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

During the course of the investigation, witnesses described the man driving the truck to TBI Forensic Scientists, who age-progressed the subject’s picture most recently in 2014.

The TBI would like the assistance of the public in locating the individual believed to have been driving the truck. Anyone with information about the case or believing they may have information about the man pictured in the composite sketches should contact the TBI at 1.800.TBI.FIND.
