APSU Chris Horton

Horton earned accolades after a phenomenal Sunday performance that saw him convert 16-of-17 shots against Lipscomb in scoring a career-best 37 points to go with 13 rebounds—his ninth straight double-double and 10th this season.

He made his first 14 shots in the come-from-behind victory before Lipscomb’s J.J. Butler blocked him from behind with 1:13 left in the game. Horton’s 94 percent shooting is the highest field-goal percentage by a player with a minimum of 15 attempts over the last five seasons.

Those 37 points represented APSU’s best single-game scoring performance since Drake Reed had 37 points against Eastern Illinois, December 6th, 2008. It was APSU’s first 30-point game effort since Travis Betran had 32 in the 2013-14 season finale at UT Martin.

But his recognition was not based upon one contest. Wednesday night against North Florida Horton scored a then career-high 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting while snatching 17 rebounds—his second highest total this season—while also collecting three steals.

Horton is ranked first nationally in offensive rebounds per game (5.92) and is second in rebounds per game (13.5). He also is tied for first in double-doubles (10). He enters Tuesday’s home game against Wofford needing just eight rebounds for 1,000.
