Clarksville, TN – Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk is produced by the Downtown Clarksville Association and is a free, self-guided tour spanning a 5-block radius that combines visual art, live music, engaging events and more in the heart of Downtown Clarksville.
With 10+ venues, bars and businesses participating each month, the First Thursday Art Walk in Clarksville is the ultimate opportunity to savor and support local creative talent.
The December Art Walk will be held December 3rd from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the shops and galleries on Public Square, Franklin Street, and Strawberry Alley.
The participating businesses are listed below as well as a description of the work they will be exhibiting and services they will be offering during the event.
Edward’s Steakhouse (107 Franklin Street)
Edward’s Steakhouse is proud to feature new work by local photographer, David Smith, during the January First Thursday Art Walk.
David Smith is a retired U.S. Army Still Photographer, who came to the Clarksville area in 1976 as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He returned to Clarksville with his family after his retirement from the military. Most of the photographs are of Landscapes and scenery but he also tries to photography the City of Clarksville. ”I feel that it’s important for a photographer to help preserve the history through photographs.”
He is a member of The Friends of Photography here in Clarksville. His photographs have been displayed in Edward’s Steakhouse, Tennessee State Museum, Customs House Museum and F&M Bank in Clarksville and Springfield and has been featured on local program, Tennessee Crossroads.

Peg Harvill Gallery
For those who enjoy the visual arts, the Peg Harvill Gallery, located just beyond the lobby, hosts twelve shows annually featuring locally and nationally known artisans. Shows generally open the first Thursday of each month for our First Thursday Art Walk.

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery is proud to feature the art of Montgomery Central Elementary School during the month of January. However, the gallery will NOT be open during the First Thursday Art Walk.
Additional gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 2:00pm.

Downtown Artists Co-op (96 Franklin Street)
The DAC is an association of talented local artists and interested patrons dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the Clarksville/Montgomery County area. Our objectives are to sponsor art exhibitions of work by Co-op members and regional artists, to provide continuing support for the Co-op and its membership through the sale of art work, to encourage arts education with outreach programs and scholarship fundraisers, and to develop membership services which directly support the arts community.
Artist Information
Native Clarksvillian Janet Jones Felts will exhibit her artworks throughout the month of January at the Downtown Artist Co-op Gallery. Her show, “Freedom to Explore”, represents her diversity acquired from years of study as an art educator in Tennessee and Georgia.
“Freedom to Explore” sums up the many media and skills she’s taught as a high school art teacher. Janet’s training started at APSU with an Associate in Advertising Art and a BFA in Art Education. Gwinnett County School System, where she taught in Georgia, provided workshops on art techniques, media and teaching during the summer.
Now that Ms. Felts is retired she says, “I’m like a kid just out of art school, it’s time I find myself.” “Freedom to Explore” is about her journey since retirement in creating her own art. Settling on just one medium to work in for Janet is problematic, she loves them all.
Everyone is welcome to attend the “Opening Reception” , Thursday, January 7th from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the DAC (Downtown Artist Co-op) on 96 Franklin, Street in Clarksville. The exhibit will be on display January 7th – 29th. DAC hours are: Wednesday-Friday, 12:00pm-4:00pm Saturday, 10:00am-6:00pm.
Mrs. Felts joined the DAC last February. “Freedom to Explore” will be her first solo exhibit at the DAC. This is not her first solo exhibit in Clarksville. She had a solo exhibit at the Custom House Museum’s Peg Harvill Gallery in 2014. Since her retirement from teaching art in Georgia in 2010, she has returned to her beloved Tennessee and settled in Erin where she has her studio on East Main Street. Surroundings: The Art of Frank Baggett
November 3rd – January 10th
Artist Frank Baggett is a Tennessean and is known nationally as a successful landscape and wildlife artist with over 40 years of experience. The love of the outdoors drew Frank into “en plein air” (painting outdoors on sight) and many of his works capture a moment in time when the lighting was “just right.”
The Art of Noriko Register
January 5th – January 31st
Noriko attended art school at Bunka Gakuin in Tokyo and again in New York City. She moved from Japan to New York in 1980 and currently makes her home in Hermitage, TN. Her paintings focus on the everyday objects which fascinate her: their color and shape in the space they inhabit and the space her art creates for them.

Jade – Photography by Sarah Lavender
Sarah Lavender is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography at Austin Peay State University. The artist states that she feels a profound connection with traditional black-and-white photography. The exhibit, entitled “Jade,” is a photographic study of her daughter over the span of her early development.
The Framemaker is located at the corner of North Second Street and Georgia Avenue, across from the Clarksville Academy.

“In view of the upbeat nature of Hopps Java and Juice I have put together a few of my most colorful 16×20 inch images from Clarksville, Hopkinsville and Ashland City. If you’re tired of the cold, dreary winter this is sure to brighten your day. One of my favorites is a very bright and colorful picture of the Wurlitzer Jukebox that used to be in Stratton’s restaurant in Ashlalnd City. It practically glows from inside.”
