Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for January 17th, 2016

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Queen City Road Race T-shirt contest for kids, Martial Arts and Free Silver Social.

Queen City Road Race T-shirt contest for kids

Calling all budding artists in grades 1st through 5th: Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Queen City Road Race T-shirt design contest is back and the best drawing will be featured on the official 2016 event t-shirt!

First place: $100.00 for you, an official Queen City Road Race T-shirt featuring your design, framed poster of your drawing, $100.00 and a Subway party for your art class, art supplies and certificate.

Second place: $50.00 for you, Subway party for your art class, art supplies and certificate.

Third place: $25.00 for you, Subway party for your art class, art supplies and certificate.

For a detailed list of the Queen City Road Race T-shirt design contest rules, please visit www.cityofclarksville.com/qcrr but here are a couple of really important bits of information to help you get started:

  1. Your drawing must be submitted by January 22nd — so get going.
  2. Your drawing may be done using marker or colored pencil only. There is a 5 color use maximum.
  3. Drawing must be on white 8 ½ x 11 paper.

The Queen City Road Race, sponsored by Cumberland Bank and Trust, will take place Saturday, May 7th beginning at 8:00am. The event will include a 5K, 10K, and One Mile Movement.

Martial Arts

Program serves students from the recreational to the international level
The Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road, offers a martial arts program for both youth and adults every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.

This competitive martial arts class strives to assist each student in developing into a complete person; physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Cost of the program is $70.00 per month for an individual, $100.00 per month for two individuals, $125.00 per month for three individuals or $135.00 per month for four or more individuals. A community center membership is required.

Free Silver Social to celebrate Mardi Gras

Hosted at Kleeman Community Center
Are you at least 50 years of age and looking for something fun to do? The Kleeman Community Center is ready to let the good times roll with another Silver Social, co-sponsored by the Distinguished Steppers Unlimited, on Saturday, February 20th. Enjoy delicious food and dance the night away as we celebrate the music and excitement of Mardi Gras!

The Silver Social will take place from 5:00pm to 10:00pm at the Kleeman Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane. The best part? This event is free of charge!
