Clarksville, TN – Junior infielder Logan Gray of the Austin Peay State University baseball team will enter the 2016 campaign as a Preseason All-American, receiving third-team honors from D1Baseball.com, Monday.
Gray, of Leawood, Kansas, led the Govs in batting average (.366), home runs (14) and RBI (39) last season despite missing the final quarter of the season after suffering a hand injury April 24th against Morehead State.He was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Award – awarded by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers to the national player of the year.
Prior to his injury, Gray was amid a power surge that saw him hit all 14 of his home runs in his final 22 games played. The outburst pushed him to 33rd among Division I hitters in home runs and the 14 round-trippers were ninth-most in program history.
Gray was the only Ohio Valley Conference player named to D1Baseball.com’s three teams and one of only seven players from the mid-major ranks recognized.
Austin Peay begins its preseason team practice slate this Friday as it gears up for its February 19th, 2016 home and season opener against Bradley.
