Although the six-team meet isn’t the largest on the Governors schedule, it features three conference foes—Belmont, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State—to give APSU an idea of where it stacks up in the Ohio Valley Conference with the OVC Indoor Championships less than a month away.

After a huge weekend at last week’s Thundering Herd Invitational, senior Kymmalett Ross returns to action for the Governors.

The sprinter set or tied school records in the 60m (7.61) and 200m (24.51) dashes; she’s now earned seven top-three finishes this season as an individual (one in the 55m dash, two in the 60m dash and four in the 200m) and ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference in the 200m dash and third in the 60m.

Ross, senior Breigh Jones and juniors Molly Jordan and Terri Morris posted APSU’s best showing in the 4x400m relay last weekend with a 3:51.29 mark, finishing second. As individuals, all four seem primed for breakout showings, with Jones and Morris owning two of the top-six 400m marks in the OVC this season, while Jordan posted a personal-best in the mile last weekend.

Juniors Kaylnn Pitts and Chancis Jones remain shelved with injury, but others have stepped to the forefront for Austin Peay in the field events in their stead. Freshmen Savannah Amato and Dascha Hix are the conference’s top two pole vaulters to this point in the season—both competed at Southern Illinois this week—while junior Amia Butler quietly owns the fifth-best long jump mark (5.52m) in the conference in 2015-16.

Austin Peay returns to action next weekend at the Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, the first of back-to-back Ohio trips ahead of the OVC Indoor Championships, February 26th-27th, in Nashville, TN.
