Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team was selected to finish fifth in the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference predicted order of finish as voted by the league’s head coaches, Friday. In addition, junior Aaron Jumonville was ranked the fifth-best men’s player in the conference rankings.

Defending champion Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech topped the preseason poll with 74 points each, followed by Belmont (55), Jacksonville State (55), Austin Peay (53), Morehead State (45), SIU Edwardsville (34), Eastern Illinois (32), Murray State (19) and Tennessee State (9).

Last season, the Governors advanced to the OVC Championship match for the second time in three years under head coach Ross Brown, narrowly falling to Eastern Kentucky, 4-2.

Behind a veteran group, APSU went 14-8 (7-2 OVC), which led to fellow coaches slotting the Govs just outside the top three.

Jumonville played primarily as the No. 3 last season, but with the graduation of three members, the Nashville native has claimed the top spot in 2016. After a solid preseason effort, Jumonville picked up his season’s first win against Chattanooga’s John Peacey last Saturday, 6-4, 6-2, and will be asked to set the tone for the Govs moving forward.

Fellow junior Manuel Montenegro has obtained the No. 2 position with his experience against the game’s best, while sophomore Aleh Drobysh, newcomer Almantas Ozelis, freshman Chad Woodham and junior James Mitchell complete the early season lineup.

Senior Evan Borowski, freshman Taylor Graalman and freshman Alex Kartsonis all remain viable options, giving Austin Peay depth to exchange singles or doubles players.

Austin Peay continues its non-conference slate February 12th at Lipscomb.
