Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUMurray, KYJosh Robinson knocked down the go-ahead free throw with 5.7 seconds left and Tre’ Ivory made a steal with 1.6 seconds left as Austin Peay State University rallied down the stretch to defeat Murray State, 76-73, Saturday night in CFSB Center.

The victory improved the Governors to 11-15 overall and 4-7 in the OVC. Murray State dropped to 12-12 overall and 6-5 in the OVC.

APSU trailed by as much as 10 second-half points and still were behind by seven, 69-62, with 2:50 left before the Governors started their rally. Chris Horton, who ended with a game-high 29 points, scored on a layup and was fouled with 2:33 remaining. After making the subsequent free throw it cut the deficit to four, 69-65.

APSU Chris HortonAfter the Racers’ Jeffery Moss was allowed to substitute for an injured Wayne Langston and connected on one of two free throws to push the lead back to five with 2:13 left. Horten then answered with another layup and it was a three-point game with 1:56 left.

The Governors then got a defensive stop with 1:31 remaining and made it a one-point game when Robinson drove the lane, dishing off to Kenny Jones for the layup.

But Murray State seemingly regained control when senior star guard Moss drove the lane and drove a jumper in off the glass. He also was fouled and after making the free the one-point game before a four-point lead with 41 seconds left.

APSU Zach GlottaOn the ensuing possession Robinson again drove and dished to freshman Zach Glotta, who caught the ball in front of Govs’ head coach Dave Loos. The freshman point guard let fly with a three pointer that again made it a one-point game, 73-72, with 30 ticks left.

The Govs immediately called timeout. Out of the break, the Govs came with full-court pressure and Horton stepped in to make a steal near midcourt. The Governors called their final timeout.

Out of this timeout, the Governors put the ball in Robinson’s hands. He drove the lane and was fouled by Moss on the shot attempt with 5.7 seconds left. The sophomore calmly sank the first free throw to tie the game and then the second to provide the Governors a one-point, 74-73 advantage.

This time Murray State called timeout. During the break the Governors inserted Ivory in place of Glotta for defensive purposes. Still remembering the final-second overtime loss against Eastern Illinois when the Panthers A.J. Riley drove the length of the floor with less than six seconds left, this time the Governors funneled Murray State point guard Bryce Jones to the sideline in front of the Govs bench and came with a double-team. Ivory stole the ball off the dribble and was fouled with 1.6 seconds remaining.

APSU Josh RobinsonIvory stepped to the line and banked in the first free throw before easing in the second for the final victory margin.

Robinson finished with 21 points, scoring all 12 second-half points in the final 7:32. Glotta finished with a season-high 11 points and six assists.

The Governors shot 61 percent from the floor in the second half and made 23 of 30 free throws, including 11 of 12 by Robinson.

Moss led Murray State with 27 points, including four three pointers, while Gee McGhee added 11.
