Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for March 3rd – 9th, 2016

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Raccoons and Ripe Corn, Sunset Hike, Walk with the Ranger, Early Spring Hike, Port Royal History Walk, Bird Hike, and Trail of Tears at Port Royal.

Thursday, March 3rd

Raccoons and Ripe Corn

Time: 3:30pm – 4:00pm
Ages: 5 – 12

Learn how to look for animals and the signs they leave behind by watching this Reading Rainbow episode in our Audio-Visual room.

Sunset Hike

Time: 4:30pm – 5:45pm
Ages: All ages

The light is wonderful this time of day at this time of the year. Come out and experience the sunset lighting up the trees (if the weather is good, if not, we’ll enjoy the rain).

Friday, March 4th

Walk with the Ranger

Time: 10:00am – 11:00am
Ages: All Ages

Enjoy a walk through the woods as we experience an early spring day.

Early Spring Hike

Time: 2:00pm – 3:30pm
Ages: 6 – adult

We might see deer, squirrels, and other animals on this one mile hike. We’ll also look for the early spring wildflowers.

Saturday, March 5th

Port Royal History Walk

Time: 3:30pm – 5:00pm
Ages: 5 to adult

Join us for a walk around Port Royal Historic Area. Meet at the upper parking lot (beside the Visitor Center).

Sunday, March 6th

Bird Hike

Time: 8:00am – 10:00am
Ages: Adult

Bring binoculars and learn the birds that call this area home.

Day into Night Hike

Time: 5:00pm – 6:15pm
Ages: All ages

Walk the trail as the sun set and darkness rises, a good time to see animals and maybe hear owls and frogs.

Tuesday, March 8th

Bird Hike

Time: 7:00am – 9:00am
Ages: 12 – adult

Wednesday, March 9th

Trail of Tears at Port Royal

Time: 10:00am – 11:00am
Ages: 8 to adult

Join us for a walk on the Trail of Tears. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot.

Reservations Required by: 4:30pm, March 7th.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.

Port Royal State Historic Park is located at 3300 Old Clarksville Springfield Road, Adams, Tennessee.
