Nashville, TN – After Austin Peay vanquished one higher seed in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, Wednesday night, the Governors have their sights set on another when they play Tennessee State, 6:00pm, Thursday, in Municipal Auditorium.
No. 8 APSU built an early lead against Tennessee Tech and rolled to a 92-72 victory.Tonight, the Govs will play No. 4 seed Tennessee State, which gained a first-round bye. The Tigers defeated the Governors, 66-52, January 14th.
Tennessee State comes in led by a pair of first-team All-OVC guard Tahjere McCall and Keron DeShields, who also were selected to the OVC All-Newcomer team. As a result, head coach Dana Ford led the Tigers to the OVC tournament in a complete turnaround in being OVC Coach of the Year. The Tigers finished the OVC season at 11-5 but blew out No. 1 seed Belmont to complete the regular season. It was TSU’s 20th win.
The Govs got a career performance from Chris Horton, Wednesday night. The senior center, playing in his first OVC tourney game, scored 37 points and grabbed 21 rebounds.
