Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for March 17th – 23rd, 2016

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Man’s Use of Dunbar Cave, Nature Walk at Port Royal, Spring Hike, Early Spring Wildflower Hike, Port Royal History Walk, and Moonlight Walk.

Thursday, March 17th

Man’s Use of Dunbar Cave

Time: 2:00pm–3:00pm
Ages: 8 to adult

Join us for a walk around the area and learn about how we have used Dunbar Cave in the past.

Reservations By: 4:30pm, March 15th.

Friday, March 18th

Nature Walk at Port Royal

Time: 4:00pm–5:00pm
Ages: All ages

We will take the ½ mile River Bottom Trail and see what plants and creatures we can find.

Saturday, March 19th

Spring Hike

Time: 6:00pm–7:00pm
Ages: All ages

Hike the one mile Short Loop Trail as the sun sets. We will look for early spring wildflowers and listen for barred owls as well as any other creatures that can be found.

Monday, March 21st

Early Spring Wildflower Hike

Time: 2:00pm–3:30pm
Ages: 10 – Adults

We will walk the Short Loop Trail and look for toothwort, spring beauty, rue anemone and other spring flowers.

Tuesday, March 22nd

Port Royal History Walk

Time: 10:00am–11:00am
Ages: 5 – adult

Join us for a walk around Port Royal Historic Area. Meet at the upper parking lot (beside the Visitor Center).

Reservations By: 4:30pm, March 20th.

Wednesday, March 23rd

Moonlight Walk

Time: 7:00pm–8:30pm
Ages: All ages

The moon will be rising as we walk the grounds of Dunbar Cave and visit the cave entrance.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.

Port Royal State Historic Park is located at 3300 Old Clarksville Springfield Road, Adams, Tennessee.
