Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s softball team will wrap up its short three-game homestand, 3:00pm, Wednesday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field with a single contest versus Middle Tennessee State University.
It will be the 50th meeting in the series between the two schools, dating back to March 11th, 1993 – with the Blue Raiders holding a 32-17 advantage in the series.The two teams last met on February 8th, 2015, at the Mississippi State Bulldog Kickoff Classic (Starkville, MS); with MTSU coming away with an 8-5 win.
The Govs (4-12) enter the game coming off a sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past Saturday, while Middle Tennessee (13-12) comes in having won two of three games at Southern Miss to open Conference USA play.
Offensively, Austin Peay has five players hitting .300-or-better after 16 games, led by three freshmen – Danielle Liermann (.364/2 HR/15 RBI), Kendall Vedder (.357/0 HR/8 RBI) and Kacy Acree (.346/2 HR/9 RBI).
Junior, Chandler Groves (.333/1 HR/6 RBI) and senior Mel Pavel (.308/0HR/3 RBI) round out the quintet of hitters.
In the circle, juniors Autumn Hanners and Allie Blackwood have picked up wins for the Govs, with Hanners coming in with a 2-5 record, a 3.83 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work. Blackwood in 2-0 overall, with a 5.12 ERA and 11 k’s in 13.2 innings so far this spring.
