Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team open Ohio Valley Conference play Friday and Saturday at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, respectively.
APSU (0-5) dropped its fifth consecutive match last Saturday against VCU, the second in a row in which the Govs have been swept 7-0.
However, Austin Peay has a chance to stir a turnaround as conference action looms. To do so, the Govs will rely on a trio of juniors, led by No. 1 Aaron Jumonville, Manuel Montenegro and James Mitchell.Eastern Kentucky (10-9) has lost back-to-back matches, but in February, the Colonels rolled off seven-straight to go 7-1 during the month. An experienced squad, EKU is headed by Alex Alvaro (11-14), and also have four other players with double-digit singles wins.
The Eagles (1-6) are in a similar position as Austin Peay. Winter weather forced the cancellation of two of its matches, forcing a thin nonconference schedule to be played. Last Friday, MSU picked up its first victory, defeating Toledo on the road, 5-2.
