Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUJacksonville, AL – Senior outfielder Kyle Blackburn had three extra base hits and four RBI but Austin Peay State University’s baseball team could not keep Jacksonville State off the scoreboard in a 25-12 Ohio Valley Conference loss, Sunday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field.

UT Lady Vols advance to Sweet 16 with 75-64 victory over Arizona State

UT Lady VolsTempe, AZ – Tennessee is heading to the Sweet 16 for the 34th time after defeating No. 2 seed Arizona State, 75-64, in Sunday’s NCAA Tournament Second Round matchup at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Lady Vols (21-13) have won five of their last six games, the best stretch of the season for the Big Orange. Despite claiming its highest seed in school history, Arizona State (26-7) dropped three of its final four.

Diamond DeShields led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Mercedes Russell (12), Jordan Reynolds (12) and Jaime Nared (11) also scored in double figures. Elisha Davis scored 18 points to pace the Sun Devils.

“Say Dyslexia” bill to be heard in the House and Senate committees

Tennessee State Representative - District 67Nashville, TN – Several bills sponsored by Tennessee Representative Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville) moved along in committees last week. This is a general update on the bills and events on the Hill from last week.

House Bill 1513/Senate Bill 1658 (Senator Jim Tracy, R-Shelbyville) is a proposal from the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association to allow county governments to give to retiring full time deputies their service weapon (pistol) that was carried in the line of duty. This legislation has passed both the House and Senate and is on its way to the Governor.

Cold weather moved into the area overnight, but that did not stop those in attendance from having a great time.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team snapped its six-match losing streak Saturday, defeating Morehead State 4-2 for the first Ohio Valley Conference win of 2016.

The Govs (2-6) got off to a rough start to the contest in doubles play.

APSU’s Asanbe Diversity Symposium to have noted novelist Marnie Mueller speak March 24th

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The path that Marnie Mueller would forge during her career was, in many ways, foreshadowed by the circumstances that led to the first moments of her life.

Born to Caucasian American parents during World War II, Mueller nonetheless was born behind the barbed wire fences of a Northern California segregation camp designed to keep Japanese Americans contained during the war effort.
