APSU Governors Tennis to face Tennessee Volunteers, April 3rd

APSU Men's TennisClarksville, TN – Needing an additional nonconference match due to three cancellations, APSU men’s tennis team has added a match at Tennessee, April 3rd, at 12:30pm CT.

This will be the first men’s tennis meeting between the Austin Peay State University Governors and Volunteers since 2003, a match UT won 5-0. Tennessee is 6-0 all-time versus APSU, with all six duals occurring in Knoxville, TN.

The Vols are 6-9 this season, and have gotten off to a slow start in SEC play with an 0-2 record. Meanwhile, the Governors are in search of their season’s first win.

Austin Peay competed at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional last fall in Knoxville. The Govs were grouped with three Tennessee players in the event. UT’s Preston Touliatos edged Aaron Jumonville in the second round, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, Igor Smelyanski topped Manuel Montenegro, 6-2, 6-0, and 16th seed Luis Valero defeated Chad Woodham, 6-3, 6-0.

The Govs will participate in three matches prior to their meeting with Tennessee. This weekend, APSU hosts SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois in OVC action, then travels to Lindsey Wilson for a makeup match, March 30th.
