The Governors (2-7) have turned the corner following a 0-7 start to the campaign, with wins over SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois.

Both matches were decided by one point, 4-3, with Austin Peay’s improved play in doubles paying off.

In singles, APSU has been led by junior Manuel Montenegro, this week’s OVC Co-Male Player of the Week. Montenegro went 2-0 on the weekend at the No. 3 spot in the order, while freshman Chad Woodham came on strong to go undefeated against SIUE and Eastern Illinois at the No. 5 position.

As a group, the Govs have strengthened their team chemistry now with a consistent singles order and doubles pairings. Montenegro and junior Aaron Jumonville will fill the top spot, while Aleh Drobysh/Almantas Ozelis and Woodham/James Mitchell or Alex Kartsonis are projected to be No. 2s and 3s, respectively.

Wednesday’s match was originally expected to be played March 4th, but due to weather conditions, it was postponed.
