Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will make the short 85-mile trek down Interstate 24, Tuesday, to Murfreesboro, for a 4:00pm rematch with Middle Tennessee.
This game is a make-up from the original March 31st date. In the first meeting, March 16th, Austin Peay (6-25) lost a 6-0 decision to the Blue Raiders at Cheryl Holt Field.
The Governors enter the contest having just ended a 12-game losing streak with a walk-off win versus Tennessee State, Sunday, with sophomore Savanna Oliver pinch-hit home run being the difference.
Middle Tennessee (20-19) comes in having dropped its final two games of a three-game series at Western Kentucky.
Offensively for Austin Peay a pair of freshmen lead the attack. Redshirt freshman Kacy Acree and true freshman Danielle Liermann are putting up some of the best numbers in school history for first-year players. Acree leads the team with a .384 batting average, including 10 doubles, two triples and four home runs. She also leads the team in runs scored with 24.
Liermann is hitting at a .358 clip, with eight doubles, a triple and a team-best five home runs and 29 RBIs. Liermann’s 29 RBI is a freshman single-season record, breaking the old mark of 27 set during the 2007 season by Daniella Hooper and Ashley Taylor.
In the circle, junior Autumn Hanners leads the Govs pitching staff with a 3-11 win-loss mark, with a 4.03 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 73 innings of work this season.
Fellow juniors Allie Blackwood and Christiana Gable have the other wins for Austin Peay this season, with Blackwood being 2-0. However, she will miss the rest of 2016 with a shoulder injury while Gable (1-1) picked up her first collegiate win this past Sunday versus Tennessee State.
