APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer head coach Kelley Guth announced the team’s 2016 fall schedule, Wednesday, which features nine home matches at APSU Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Following an exhibition contest at Georgia State (August 14th), the Govs officially open the regular season at UAB (August 19th) and Alabama State (August 21st).

Last season featured the first meetings between the two schools – a 4-3 loss to the Blazers and 10-2 rout of ASU.

Austin Peay hosts Evansville (August 28th) in its home opener – the latest opening date since 2013. After road trips to Western Kentucky (September 2nd) and Lipscomb (September 4th), the Govs return to friendly confines, welcoming South Alabama (September 9th) and Alabama A&M (September 11th) to town for senior weekend.

The newest addition to the APSU schedule rotation is TCU, a team the Govs play for the first time (September 16th), in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, it will be Austin Peay’s first meeting against a Big 12 school in program history. Completing the nonconference schedule will be a home date against Chattanooga (September 18th).

“We wanted a good balance of competition with our traditional rivals such as Lipscomb and UTC, and we have Western Kentucky on the schedule this year, which hasn’t happened in a while,” Guth said. “Adding TCU, a program from that level of a conference, right before our conference slate will prepare us very well moving forward. We struggled on the road last year, so I felt it was important to get some good away games to challenge our team.”

The Governors begin Ohio Valley Conference play at Morehead State (September 22nd), kicking off a string of three-straight away matches. Up next are trips to UT Martin (September 30th) and Southeast Missouri (October 2nd).

October ignites the race towards the OVC Tournament, with five of Austin Peay’s eight matches in the month being held in Clarksville. Home matches against Eastern Kentucky (October 7th) and Tennessee Tech (October 9th) dot the schedule, followed by the team’s final away matches – at SIU Edwardsville (October 14th) and Eastern Illinois (October 16th).

Austin Peay will have three consecutive home contests to conclude the regular season, the first time to ever occur in the team’s 14-year history. Belmont and Jacksonville State make stops at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field, October 21st and 23rd, respectively, before a showdown versus the reigning OVC champions Murray State, October 27th.

“Playing at home during conference is certainly an advantage,” Guth said. “Murray State is always a great matchup. We anticipate them to be at the top of the league again, and it will be a great opportunity for us to play them at home in our last conference game.”
