Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior Morgan Kauffman, of the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Kauffman earned All-Tournament honors at the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championships, placing fifth with a three-round 224 (75-76-73) after moving up three spots to lead the Lady Govs to a fifth-place team finish. She is Austin Peay’s first All-Tournament player since Chelsea Harris’ string of four straight all-tournament honors (2008-11).

The Knoxville native’s final-round 73 was tied for third-best among all golfers in Wednesday’s round on The Highlands Course at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove.

She punctuated Austin Peay’s final-round 306 as a team with a birdie on the 18th hole.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, won the pole vault with a 3.87m (12’ 8.25”) at the APSU Invitational—her second pole vault victory in three weeks.
  • Freshman Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, helped lead Austin Peay back into the OVC Tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Jacksonville State’s Olivia Nguyen and joined Helena Kuppig to a 6-2 doubles victory against Nguyen and Genevie Ulanday at No. 1 doubles.
  • Senior pitcher Jared Carkuff, of the baseball team, factored into the decision in all three wins for the Governors last week. He snaked a relief win against Memphis with two scoreless innings, then added 3.1 innings to finish an extra-inning affair against Belmont, Saturday. He rounded out the weekend with a two-inning save against the Bruins, Sunday. He allowed two hits and two walks in 7.1 innings, striking out seven.
