Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Tennis plays Eastern Illinois to begin OVC Tournament, Friday

APSU Women's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team will play their first match in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, 2:00pm, Friday at the Centennial SportsPlex. The Lady Govs will be facing Eastern Illinois, the number 5 seed.

Getting to the OVC Tournament has been a battle from the start for the Lady Govs.

The team had a moderately difficult start in conference play, with a 2-4 record by the beginning of April.

However, the Govs had a four match winning streak, including a much needed victory against Jacksonville State, which launched the team into the tournament.

Austin Peay has not attended the tournament since 2013, where the Govs were also paired with the Panthers in the first round of play. The Govs run was ended early after Eastern Illinois overwhelmed the Govs 4-0.

This season, the Govs met the Panthers on March 26th, where they were handed their third loss in conference play, 3-4.

Going into the tournament, team leaders, Lidia Yanes Garcia and Claudia Yanes Garcia, hold the most successful singles records in conference play for Austin Peay; Lidia with 9-1 and Claudia with 8-1. Moreover, the twins are also moving on with a four and six match winning streak, respectively.

In doubles, the duo of Hannah Tatlock and Isabela Jovanovic have held the best record in conference play for the Govs at 4-5. The doubles pair also have a one match winning streak going into the competition.
