“This week’s Academic Progress Rate release highlights our continuing emphasis on helping our student-athletes obtain their four-year degree,” said Austin Peay Athletics Director Ryan Ivey. “I want to congratulate our student-athletes on their continued efforts in the classroom. I also want to thank our Student-Athlete Academic Services office, led by Sonya Bain, for their hard work to ensure our student-athletes have access to all the tools they need to be successful.”

Wednesday, the NCAA released the complete four-year APR rates for each of Austin Peay’s 14 teams – women’s indoor and outdoor track and field were combined into one sport-group beginning with this year’s data. In addition to the three perfect marks, seven Austin Peay teams posted an improved APR compared to last season’s data: baseball, football, men’s cross country, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s soccer and women’s tennis.

Highlights in this season’s data include:

  • Baseball posted an APR improvement for the third consecutive season and its 968 mark is its best since the APR program was established.
  • Men’s Tennis posted the best improvement among APSU’s men’s teams, its 14-point uptick pushing it to its highest APR mark in program history (980) – and has improved for four consecutive seasons.
  • Women’s Cross Country posted the largest improvement among women’s teams, its 20-point boost giving the program its first perfect score.
  • Women’s Soccer posted an improvement for the fifth time in the last six seasons (it held a steady mark the other season) and its six-point improvement pushed it to a program best 994 mark.
  • Women’s Tennis notched an 11-point upswing and its 989 mark is its best APR score in program history.

Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating.

The 2014-15 overall four-year rate is 979, up one point from the previous year’s mark. Nationally, there were three-point improvements in men’s and women’s basketball and football all contributed to that increase. Men’s basketball teams earned a 964 (up from 961), women’s basketball teams earned a 978 (up from 975) and football teams earned a 959 (up from 956).

Rates are an average of each school’s performance for the last four years. National aggregates are based on all teams with usable data at the time of analysis. APRs for each team, lists of teams receiving public recognition and those receiving sanctions are available online through the NCAA’s searchable database.
