APSU Lady Govs Softball falls to Murray State, 6-1

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team saw Murray State break open a 1-1 game with back-to-back home runs, Sunday at Cheryl Holt Field, with the Governors dropping its Senior Day Game, 6-1.

The Govs (9-38, 5-22) had tied the game 1-1 on Danielle Liermann‘s team-high seventh home run of the season, in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Murray State would take the lead for good in the top of the sixth on back-to-back home runs by Taylor Odom and Jocelyn Rodgers.

Liermann would lead the Govs with two hits, while Niya Sparks and Vinchenza DiBenedetto also recorded hits for Austin Peay.

The Racers (23-29, 12-14 OVC) would score three more runs in the seventh, on four hits, including RBI singles from Shelbey Miller, Jessica Twaddle and Leah Kesel.

Kesel, Rodgers and Maddy Feeney had two hits each for Murray State.

Mason Robinson (18-14) pitched the complete-game win, allowing only four hits and two walks, while striking out four.

The contest was also the last for the Govs five seniors, Sparks, DiBenedetto, Natalie Ayala, Mel Pavel and Courtney Brower.
