Clarksville, TN – Today, Wednesday, May 25th, around 1:30pm the Clarksville Police Department received a complaint and request to conduct a Welfare Check on a person considering doing harm to himself.
Officers were able to locate the individual in the Two Rivers Mall parking lot near the Electric Cowboy and the River Walk. The individual was armed and as Officer attempted to approach and talk with the individual he took his own life.
CPD will not be releasing his information at this time until we can confirm that all family has been notified. Also the Parking Lot in that area and the northern section of the River Walk is closed to the public and media until further notice and the scene is processed.
Officer Hall will be at the O’Charley parking lot for media inquiries.
The public is not at risk and was never at risk.
While the immediate vicinity should indeed be closed, closing the entire area is excessive and a violation of the 1st amendment.
my goodness have a heart, no one is going to be out that much by closeing a bit of a parking lot and sidewalk for a couple of hours… it is storming anyway….
Seriously?? That’s what your worried about? A man just took his life and people are going to be grieving hard over this action. Not to mention the others that may have witnessed this. And your worried about how much area they blocked off? My lord
Seriously, the police department should be closing the smallest area that needs to be closed to protect the integrity of the crime scene period. The exclusion of the public or media is not their job.
Should people go down and gawk, most certainly not. But the media has their job to do, and it is just as important as the one the police department does.
I know the impact that suicides can have, and that’s one of the reasons it is important for the media to be able to tell this story. I lost two family members to suicide.
And that is the reason people dislike the media so much.
Why because I feel that telling the story in hopes of dissuading others from taking the same course of action is important?
Also, I am not in the media, but you have the right to your opinion, just as I do to mine.
I can’t understand people like you who want to bury something like this instead allowing this tragedy to encourage others to seek help before they reach this point.
Ignorance runs rampant in this city, I have blocked the people in this thread who have let it run free.
