Fort Campbell Wedge and Sustainer Soldiers bid farewell to Commanders

Fort Campbell, KY – Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade “Lifeliners,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), bid farewell to not one but two Lifeliners at Sabo Gym on Fort Campbell, KY, May 26th, 2016.

Wedge Soldiers from 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion “Drive the Wedge,” 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade formed up by companies at Sabo Gym to begin the first of two change of commands for the Lifeliner brigade.

The 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st ,101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), conducted a Change of Command ceremony where Lt. Col. The 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st ,101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), conducted a Change of Command ceremony where Lt. Col. Lt. Col. Abel E. Young, outgoing 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. “Drive the Wedge,” 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade commander, relinquished command to Lt. Col. Gina Diego SanNicolas.

“Two years ago I stood in this very spot not fully realizing the extent of the challenge. Today I stand before you after two deployments, six JRTC (Joint Readiness Training Center) rotations, two battalion FTX’s (Field Training Exercise), five convoy live fires exercises, and most recently a SEDRE (Sea Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise) and wonder where the last two years went,” said Young. “I am humble but yet so proud to have served the Soldiers of the 129th CSSB.”

Young and his family will continue their service in Washington D.C. as he attends National War College.

“I am extremely proud of the opportunity to command such a great battalion with such an incredible reputation,” said SanNicloas, whose previous assignment was as the Aide-De-Camp to the 35th Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. “

Soldiers from 101st Special Troops Battalion “Sustainers,” 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade, took over Sabo Gym that afternoon and prepared to welcome their newest Sustainer.

Lt. Col. Alex Gallegos, outgoing 101st Special Troops Battalion “Sustainers,” 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade commander, relinquished command to Lt. Col. Wally Vives-Ocasio.

“It has been absolute honor and privilege to lead and serve with the men and women in this formation and to be part of the legacy of this esteemed 101st Airborne Division,” said Gallegos.

Gallegos will continue his serve as the Deputy Chief Officer Division Directorate of Military Personal Management in Washington D.C.

“I am extremely grateful to command the officers, noncommissioned officers, and Soldiers of the Special Troops Battalion and be part of the 101st Airborne Division,” said Vives-Ocasio, who previously served as the Defense Program Support Activity in Maryland.

As two Lifeliners ended their time with the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade two more joined the Lifeliner team.

“Today’s ceremony symbolizes a timed honored Army tradition. It ensures we remember and reflect on the accomplishments of these high preforming teams as well as rallying the command to a new leader allowing them to see who’s entrusted to lead, train and care for their needs, “said Col. Kimberly J. Daub, commander of the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade.
