Instant Peay Play: Summer break means Sport Camps at APSU

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With graduations over and public school’s out for summer break that can only mean that Austin Peay sport camps are right around the corner.

From June to right before the beginning of the next school year several different sports will be holding youth camps over the break, so no matter what your age, skill level or sport desired there is a good chance you can find one that can help you become a better player.

Men’s Basketball (at Dunn Center)

Coach Dave Loos will be hosting an Individual and Team Camp this summer.

The Individual Camp runs June 6th through 8th (9:00am to 3:00pm each day) for campers ages 6 to 16, with on-site registration from 7:30am to 8:45am, prior to the camps start. The Team Camp (high school aged players) will be held on June 11th, with games running from 10:00am to 11:00pm.

Women’s Basketball (at Dunn Center)

Coach David Midlick will hold an elite camp on June 12th – running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm for girls grades 9-12, while also holding a day camp on June 13th through June 16th, for girls in grades 1 through 8.

There will also be a team camp (JV/varsity/middle school) on June 18th, running form 9:00am to 5:00pm. For more information, call or email assistant coach Kayla Oxenrider at 931.221.7988 or oxenriderk@apsu.edu.

Baseball (at Raymond C. Hand Park)

Coach Travis Janssen will be hosting a youth baseball camp for players age 7 to 12 on June 13th through June 16th, running from 9:00am to noon each day. Campers can pre-register or register at 8:00am on June 13th, prior to the camp’s start.

Softball (at Cheryl Holt Field)

Coach Shane Showalter will hold a couple of fundamentals camps, beginning on June 13th with Defensive Camp I (10:00am to noon) and Offensive Camp I (1:00pm to 3:00pm) for campers ages 10 to 13 years old.

On June 14th Showalter will host Defensive Camp II (9:00am to noon) and Offensive Camp II (1:00pm to 4:00pm) for campers ages 14 to 18 years old.

Football (Fortera Stadium)

Coach Will Healy will host three camps this summer, beginning with a youth camp (campers entering 2nd through 8th grade) on June 20th through 22nd, while having Elite Camp I on June 25th (for players entering 9th through 12th grades) and Elite Camp 11 on July 23rd (for players entering 9th through 12th grades).

Volleyball (at Dunn Center)

Coach Taylor Mott will host an individual camp on July 22nd through July 24th, with campers grouped by age and ability and work an all skills involved in becoming a better volleyball player. There will also be a varsity team camp/JV-middle school camp on July 26th through July 28th – with the varsity camp running from 8:000am to noon and the JV-middle school camp running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

Soccer (at Morgan Brothers Field)

Coach Kelly Guth has several camps for both girls and boys throughout the summer, with age groups ranging from 4-6 year olds up to 18 years old. There will also be a college ID camp on July 16th for elite level female athletes ages 12-19, a goalkeeper and striker camp on June 13th through 15th and a camp in Dover, TN, on July 25th through July 27th at Stewart County High School.

Chris Austin is a graduate of Clarksville High School and Austin Peay State University. Chris is a former Head Softball Coach for APSU, and assistant basketball coach for CHS. Chris has worked at the Leaf-Chronicle, and WJZM News/Talk/Sports radio. Has also worked at the Sports Information Department at APSU, and has covered championship events for the Ohio Valley Conference and NCAA. Chris is an avid sports fan and can be found at most Austin Peay State University sports events.
