Clarksville, TN – Artist Larry Richardson will be at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center on Thursday, June 23rd at 12:15pm as part of the museum’s monthly Art & Lunch program.
Larry will be taking guests on a guided tour of Cumberland River paintings that are now on display in the Kimbrough Gallery.
Larry began this project in 2014, working his way along the river path. The result is a suite of plein air paintings, many of which highlight scenes familiar to those who live in Tennessee or Kentucky.
Artist-naturalist-writer Larry Richardson grew up in Western Kentucky captivated by the outdoor opportunities of his surrounding rural environment. The nearby Cumberland River was prominent in local lore and recreation.
Throughout much of his career, Larry has been involved with environmental conservation which has included writing, art production for the wholesale/retail market and fundraising for conservation organizations.
Graduating from Austin Peay State University with a Master’s Degree in Biology, his professional environmental career included positions as Tennessee Parks Chief Naturalist and Chief of Information-Education for the Tennessee Wildlife Agency, where he also served as the editor of the agency magazine and Ducks Unlimited as National Director of Field Fundraising Initiatives.
Larry Richardson’s gallery talk is free and open to the public. Cumberland River: An American Legacy will be on exhibit through July 31st. It is sponsored in part by Legends Bank. Located at the corner of Second Street and Commerce Street, the Customs House Museum is the second largest general museum in Tennessee.

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State’s second largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.
