APSU Women’s Basketball adds three junior transfers for 2016-17 Season

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A pair of championship-tested junior college transfers and a high school standout will join the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team after committing during the spring signing period, head coach David Midlick has announced.

The latest additions to the Governors basketball team for the 2016-17 include:

  • Ant’Treasia “Tresi” Patton | 5-7 Guard | Nashville, TN (Overton HS/Walters State CC)
  • Jakira “Bri” Williams | 5-5 Guard | Norcross, GA (Norcross HS/Gulf Coast State College)
  • Nieja Crawford | 5-11 Guard/Forward | Forest Park, GA (Atlanta International School)

Patton, a 5-7 guard from Nashville, helped lead Walters State to a season-opening 33 consecutive wins en route to an appearance in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament where they lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Gulf Coast State. She was a third-team NJCAA All-American after winning Region 7 Tournament MVP honors.

An Overton High School graduate, Patton led the Lady Senators with 13.6 points per game and added 2.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game last season.  Patton topped 20 points eight times in 33 games played, including a career-high 25 points against Dyersburg State. Her 450 points scored were tied for 12th most in Walters State program history and she finished her career with 637 points.

Williams, a 5-5 guard from Norcross, Georgia, was a key component of the NJCAA Division National Champion Gulf Coast State College program last season. She averaged 3.7 assists, 2.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals while starting all 33 games of her sophomore campaign. Williams tallied five or more assists nine times during the season, including a season-best eight assists in the national quarterfinal contest against Walters State.

A Norcross High School product, Williams also started every game of her freshman season at Gulf Coast State, averaging 5.1 assists, 4.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. She posted four double-digit assist efforts in her rookie year, including 11 handouts against Central Georgia Tech, November 28th.

Crawford, a 5-11 guard/forward, finished her career at Atlanta International School with 1,766 career points, 871 rebounds, 623 assists and 334 steals – each a program career record. She averaged 28 points and 22 rebounds per game during her senior season and scored 50 points in a game during the campaign.

The trio join fall signees Shelbe Piggie, a 5-4 guard, and Arielle Gonzalez-Varner, a 6-0 forward, to form a five-woman incoming class.

“As a coaching staff we knew we needed to find ball handlers and scoring depth for the 2016-17 season,” said Midlick. “I believe we have done that with a talented group of signees. I am excited to get this team on campus in August and put all the pieces together.”
