Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board Receives $212,000 from State for Business Park Development

In May, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslem and the ECD announced that 16 communities would receive $5.7 million in site development grants. The commissioner reported today that only 79 sites across the state qualified to be eligible to receive funds. Of those, only 24 made presentations and 16 were selected.

“This is a real testament to the foresightedness and leadership of this community,” he said. “I appreciate that you all recognized the available opportunity and capitalized on it. You already have a great site; the work you’ll do with this grant will make it job ready and much more sellable,” he said.

The IDB will use the funds to clear some 72 acres in the Clarksville-Montgomery County Business Park North. The clearing will allow both better access to the central part of the 1167-acre site and increase interest through preliminary land work being completed.

“The trees will be removed from portions of the site that have continually received the highest interest from prospects over the last 18 months,” said IDB Executive Director Mike Evans.

Both incoming IDB Chairman Billy Atkins and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett were on hand with IDB Board members to receive the check. Atkins and Durrett expressed their gratitude for the partnership and support of the state.

“The state ECD office has been, and continues to be, a vital partner in all of our efforts,” said Atkins. “We appreciate all that they do with and for us.”

Local officials also enthusiastically accepted Commissioner Boyd’s sentiment for future success. “Hopefully, I will be back in the very near future to help announce a new company location here on this site,” he said.
