Jenkins and Wynne began the process with the CMC Green Certification at their former location on College Street.

Although they began recycling and doing what they could to conserve energy, they put the process on hold knowing they would be building in a new location. Before the ribbon cutting, Don Jenkins joked that his biggest green accomplishment has been building the dealership.

“We built this dealership to be as energy efficient as possible with LED lighting inside and outside the facilities and there is a lot of natural lighting. We have the large Kelley fans in the bay areas to reduce the heat and we heat with our own used oil in the winter months.”

Jenkins gave much of the credit for their initiatives to daughter Casey Jenkins and maintenance manager Danny Taylor. Casey Jenkins commended Taylor for his ongoing efforts to save resources and mentioned that just that morning Taylor had requested a piece of equipment to crush the oil filters to empty them of oil and recycle the metal.

Taylor, who led the effort added, “When we began recycling our cardboard, paper and other items we realized significant savings in our trash bills. We will continue to review the utility bills and keep moving forward for savings and conservation. We encourage employees to bring in their recyclables from home as well to make it convenient for them. It’s the right thing to do for our children and grandchildren.”

Murray Keeter who has worked for Jenkins & Wynne more than 50 years said, “Don visited a lot of different dealerships throughout the United States before building and it seems he incorporated the best of everything in this one.”

McMillan praised them for their work and when she asked if employees were practicing some of the initiatives at home some employees agreed they were.

Durrett stated, “You’ve always been an outstanding community partner and now we have the opportunity to thank you for being a great environmental partner. Thank you for your work.”

Jenkins & Wynne has served the community for more than 60 years.
