Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Clarksville Independence Day Celebration, Rally on the Cumberland and Wonder Kids Triathlon.

On Sunday, July 3rd, 2016, the City of Clarksville will celebrate our nation’s independence this year with the ninth annual Independence Day Celebration at Liberty Park. The event is free and open to the public.

Activities and music will begin at 6:00pm Seating is available throughout the park and the concerts will take place on the Great Lawn of the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. Concessions are for sale throughout the park.

Rally on the Cumberland Registration

Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Rally on the Cumberland set for July 16th

Rally on the Cumberland is back for its fourth year and registration is underway! Clarksville Parks and Recreation will host the Canoe and Kayak Race on July 16th at Liberty Park, however participants must register by July 8th to compete.

The race will be held in heats beginning at 8:00am at the Montgomery County Conservation Club, located at 1182 Seven Mile Ferry Road, and finishing near Freedom Point in Liberty Park.

Canoe and kayak drop-off is Friday evening, July 15th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Conservation Club.

Registered participants must arrive by 6:45am on race day to be checked-in and transported from Liberty Park to the Conservation Club to begin the race.

Registration is available online at www.cityofclarksville.com/parksrec. Cost is $10.00 per paddler, ages 13-17 and $20 per adult, ages 18 and up.

Race categories include:

  • Youth ages 13-17
  • Beginner: 1 person
  • Beginner: 2 people
  • Intermediate: 1 person
  • Intermediate: 2 people
  • Advanced: 1 person
  • Advanced: 2 people

Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak. Boats may be rented from Blueway Adventures, LLC (931.320.8466) or Run-A-Muck Outfitters (931.551.6606) prior to completing registration for the race.

Wonder Kids Triathlon

2016 Wonder Kids Triathlon

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is excited to host the 4th Annual Wonder Kids Triathlon to be held Saturday, August 6th! This event is open to boys and girls ages 3-12 and will take place at the area surrounding New Providence Pool located at 168 Cunningham Lane.

Just like in a traditional triathlon, the Wonder Kids Triathlon athletes will participate in three legs of the event: swimming, biking and running.

Each course length varies depending on age:

  • 3-5 years-old: 25 meter Swim, ¼ mile Bike, 100 yard Run
  • 6-8 years-old: 50 meter Swim, ½ mile Bike, ¼ mile Run
  • 9-12 years-old: 100 meter Swim, 1 mile Bike, ½ mile Run

Cost to participate is $25.00 per child and pre-registration is required. Spots are limited, so register now! Registration can be completed at Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office, located at 102 Public Square, any of the City’s three recreation centers, or online at www.cityofclarksville.com/events.

Registration ends July 17th.
