Tennessee State Museum Garners Recognition and Statewide Awards

Tennessee State MuseumNashville, TN – The Tennessee State Museum’s exhibition, Ancestors: Ancient Native American Sculptures of Tennessee was recently recognized for excellence in scholarship and preservation by the Tennessee Historical Commission.

The Commission awards Certificates of Merit annually to individuals, groups, agencies or organizations that have made significant contributions to the study and preservation of Tennessee’s heritage.

Tennessee State Museum Wins Multiple Awards in the Tennessee Association of Museums Competition

The Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) fosters communication and cooperation among museums, cultural societies, and other members across the state. The TAM awards recognizes the importance of the state’s cultural, historical, and scientific contributions, by awarding excellence for exhibitions, publications, and programs, that engage the public in collections-based learning.

This year the State Museum was recognized for the following projects:

  • Native American Sulphur Dell Site Interpretation exhibit won an Award of Excellence in the permanent exhibitions category
  • The Tennessee State Capitol Guide won an Award of Excellence in the publication/gallery guide category
  • Ancestors: Ancient Native American Sculptures of Tennessee received an Award of Commendation in the blockbuster exhibitions category
  • Salute to Liberty Benefit Concert won an Award of Commendation in the special event category
  • Newsies: A Tennessee Special Edition won an Award of Commendation in the special recognition category
  • Exploring Tennessee: Bus Tour Series won an Award of Commendation in the education programs category

Additionally, State Museum volunteer Dani Franks was recognized as Outstanding Volunteer for the many hours of service which she has provided to TSM staff during the past several years.

Dan Pomeroy, as past TAM president, was awarded the TAM Fellows award for outstanding leadership in the field of history and museum services.
