APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityAtlanta, GA – After weeks of training, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team will wrap up its preseason preparations with an exhibition match, 5:00pm, Sunday, at Georgia State.

APSU has used this month for fitness measures and basic fundamental strategies, while also helping four incoming freshman mesh with a team full of veterans.

In fact, eight starters return from last season’s roster, making it one of the more experienced teams in program history.

A group of five seniors are expected to lead Austin Peay. Forward Gina Fabbro headlines the class – one of the most prestigious players to ever suit up for APSU, with 24 goals and eight assists thus far.

Defensively, the Govs expect to be even stronger in that area, with Mary Ruth Locastro anticipating a full season at center back alongside Natalie Smith. In the midfield, Brianna Avitabile will see another heavy dose of games, while last season’s breakout player, Nicole Wojcik, figures to be a force once again in an attacking role.

In addition, six juniors return with ample experience, while a strong sophomore class featuring All-OVC first teamer McKenzie Dixon gives head coach Kelley Guth plenty of options to mix and match. Junior Lindsey Todd is pegged to open the season as the team’s starting goalkeeper, with newcomer Mary Parker Powell available as well.

Georgia State is coming off an 11-win season which helped the Panthers reach the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship. GSU returns three of its four leading scorers from last year, including Suzanne Arafa who netted nine goals in 2015.
