Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Riverfest Activities, Clarksville Sportsfest, Clarksville Downtown Market running for National Award, Youth Adaptive Soccer League and the Farm-To-Market Dinner.

Riverfest Activities

Clarksville Riverfest will be held September 8th-10th, 2016.

There are so many ways to play at the City of Clarksville’s 29th annual Riverfest Celebration. The Festival will be held Thursday, September 8th through Saturday, September 10th, 2016.

52-Hour Film Festival

Participants will create a short film (4-7 minutes) based on the genre assigned at the mandatory meeting Friday, August 19th at 6:00pm at Freedom Point. Films will be judged, selected and screened at a public showing on Thursday, September 8th as part of the Riverfest Art Experience.

Juried Art Show

Professional, Amateur, Student, and Senior Divisions are available. Entry fees vary depending on division – register early and save! Art Show will be held at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center on Thursday, September 8th as part of the Riverfest Art Experience.

Human Foosball Tournament

Takes place Saturday, September 10th, 10:00am – 8:00pm.

Grab five of your favorite friends and compete for your chance to win ultimate bragging rights! Six-man teams will compete in this life-size version of your favorite table top game in one of three divisions: Youth (10-17 years old), Adults (18-30 years old), and Semi-Pro (31 years old and above).

Cost is $60.00 for the entire team. Register your team today!

Cardboard Boat Regatta

Takes place Saturday, September 10th, beginning at 10:00am.

This fan favorite is back for the tenth year. Boats are constructed from recycled materials and raced down the Cumberland River in a 100-yard dash. Divisions include: adult, youth (with adult), civic/churches, businesses, and local government agencies. Registration ends Friday, September 2nd.

Farm-To-Market Dinner

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announces tickets are now on sale for a fresh-from-the-market feast that the Clarksville Downtown Market will host Saturday, August 13th, at 6:30pm on Strawberry Alley in Downtown Clarksville.

The Farm-to-Market Dinner will feature Austin Peay Culinary Art students who will prepare a meal using local food provided by several market vendors. Meal will include an entrée, sides, and dessert.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is excited to host the sixth-annual Clarksville Sportsfest on Saturday, August 20th from 10:00am until 2:00pm at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center located within Liberty Park at 1188 Cumberland Drive.

Sportsfest will offer a variety of sports, athletic and outdoor activities for the entire family.

Attendants can rotate through over 20 sports demonstrations of their choosing to get hands on experience in learning a new sport like Parkour, Rugby, Crossfit, Archery, Scuba, Kickboxing, Lacrosse, MMA and many more!

Clarksville Sportsfest is a celebration of sports and athletics in Clarksville and the surrounding area. It will feature not only sports demonstrations and interactive areas, but also an exposition area where a wide variety of Clarksville and Montgomery County’s athletic and outdoor clubs, businesses and organizations will come together in one location.

Sportsfest is a terrific outlet to build sport networks and greater relationships between schools, clubs, recreation leagues, teams, organizations, associations and sports minded individuals.

Any sports-minded businesses, groups or organizations are welcomed and encouraged to participate in Clarksville Sportsfest. Exhibitors will be provided a 10′ x 10′ booth space including one 8-foot table and two chairs. Exhibition booths available: Non-profit vendors – registration fee is $25.00. Registration fee for businesses is $100.00 and must include a door-prize valued at $25.00.

The Clarksville Downtown Market is in the running to receive national recognition from American Farmland Trust, a national nonprofit dedicated to saving farmland for the next generation.

Youth Adaptive Soccer League

Want to learn to play soccer? Increase your soccer skills? Learn more about the sport? Have fun and meet new friends? If so, this league is for you!

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is proud to offer an Adaptive Soccer League for children and young adults ages 7 to 18 with physical or mental disabilities.

Youth adaptive soccer teaches basic rules and good sportsmanship in a non-threatening environment. The cost is $25.00 per player. Each player will receive a jersey and medal.

Registration for the league is underway and is available online at www.cityofclarksville.com/parksrec

Registration is also available in-person at the Kleeman Community Center, Crow Community Center and Burt-Cobb Community Center as well as at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation main office, located at 102 Public Square. The Main Office is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Practices and games will be held at the Heritage Park Soccer Complex. Practices begin August 29th. Games will be played on Sundays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm beginning September 25th. Season will run approximately six weeks.

If you’re also interested in a leadership role on the field, Clarksville Parks and Recreation is seeking coaches. Our youth leagues rely heavily on the generosity of parents and volunteers to provide coaching support. There is no experience required and training will be provided. If interested, please contact the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office.
