Austin Peay State University Cross Country Teams open season in Nashville at Belmont Opener

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams open the 2016 season, 9:00am, Saturday, at the Belmont Opener in Nashville Tennessee.

The Governors will be one of nine schools competing in the event, along with Belmont, Chattanooga (men only), Lipscomb, Murray State, Rhodes, Tennessee State, Trevecca and Vanderbilt.

The meet will give APSU a chance to test themselves against three Ohio Valley Conference teams, while also challenging the likes of Vanderbilt.

The women’s 5K will begin at 9:00am, followed soon after by the men at 9:40am. Both meets will take place at Percy Warner Park.

On the men’s side, the Govs will be anchored by three seniors – Daniel Hamm, Kyle Harmon and Martin Rejman. In addition, sophomore Wesley Gray returns after a breakout season in his first year in Clarksville. APSU last competed at the Belmont Opener in 2014, with Hamm, Harmon and Nick Piskor all having previously experienced the terrain.

The women’s team will be led by senior Unjala Lester, coming off a consistent season in 2015. The Govs also have a full lineup of runners who competed in Nashville two years ago, including Becca Wheeler, Sarah-Emily Woodward and Sarah Carpenter.
