APSU Women's Volleyball - Austin Peay State UniversityCharleston, SC – One final weekend tuneup before Ohio Valley Conference play awaits Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team when it competes in the Bulldog Invitational, Friday-Saturday.

The Govs will open the tournament against host The Citadel, 8:00am, Friday in a game broadcast on ESPN3. Austin Peay then will face Charleston Southern, Elon and Savannah State in the four-match affair.

Governors Notables

  • Teeter Trending. Junior transfer Kaitlyn Teeter was the Govs hot hand during Week 3 action. Punctuated by her career-high 19 kills against Saint Louis, Tuesday, she has recorded 47 of her 75 kills in her last four matches.
  • Slay Keeps Rolling. Junior Ashley Slay notched her second 16-kill outing, Tuesday against Saint Louis. It was her team-best 7th double-digit kill outing in 2016.
  • Taff Stays Efficient. Sophomore Kaylee Taff ranks 4th among OVC hitters in attack percentage (.294) after 3 full weeks of action.
  • Tough It Out. The Govs have played the 2nd-toughest schedule among OVC teams this season. APSU owns the league’s 4th-best record through three weekends.
  • Saturday Block Party. APSU posted a season-best 17 blocks in its 5-set victory against Kent State, last Saturday.
  • Slay’s Rare Double-Double. Junior Ashley Slay had a hand in 11 of those blocks vs. Kent State, last Saturday, 5th-most in Govs history. She also dished out 11 kills, giving her a rare kill-block double-double.
  • All-Tourney Trio. With three tournaments in the books, three Governors players have been named to all-tourney squads:
    • Taff earned all-tourney at East Tennessee after posting 24 kills and a .388 attack percentage, including a then career-high 12 kills against USC Upstate.
    • Sophomore Kristen Stucker was also an ETSU all-tournament pick after handing out 108 assists (9.82 per set) during the tournament. That included a 52-assist outing against USC Upstate.
    • Slay nabbed all-tourney honors in Evansville with her 28-kill, 15-block tournament totals. Of course, her 11-block outing against Kent State highlighted the weekend.

Who Governed During Week 3

Here’s who led the Govs during Week 3 (September 9th-15th)

  • Kaitlyn Teeter. Led the Govs with 47 kills (2.94 per set), including her career-high 19 kills against Saint Louis, Tuesday. She also had a team-best 11 kills at Evansville, last Friday, and led the Govs with eight kills against unbeaten Dayton, Saturday.
  • Ashley Slay. Posted double-digit kills in three of the Govs four matches and was second on the team with 44 kills (2.75 per set) during the week. She did lead APSU in attack percentage (.307), blocks (16, 1.00 per set) and points scored (54 of Govs 241 points).
  • Kristen Stucker. Did a little bit of everything. As the Govs primary setter, she had a hand in 149 (9.31 per set) assists on 193 APSU kills. She also led the team with seven service aces, was second on the team in digs (44, 2.75 per set) and had a hand on five blocks.
