TCU beats APSU Soccer 4-1 Friday

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityFort Worth, TX – In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team fell 4-1 against TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, Friday.

The Horned Frogs (7-0-1) got off to a dream start, scoring two goals in the opening two minutes.

The opener came following a low cross into the box to the left side, where McKenzie Oliver finished one-time into the top corner.

The following score came off a throw-in, where a deflected ball met the head of Kayla Hill who found the back of the net.

In the 25th minute, TCU scored its third goal of the match, a left-footed shot by Hill which tucked in just under the crossbar.

Four minutes later, Austin Peay (4-4-0) got on the board courtesy of leading goal scorer, junior Kirstin Robertson.

APSU Soccer - Kirstin RobertsonAs the opposing goalkeeper prepared to clear the ball, Robertson picked her pocket to steal and finish with ease into the open net. With the score, Robertson gained sole possession of second place in the Ohio Valley Conference goal rankings with five.

TCU added to its 3-1 lead in the 67th minute after a scramble in the box. Following a corner kick taken by the Frogs, Faith Carter got on the end of a deflection to fire it home.

The Horned Frogs finished with a 12-6 shot advantage. For the Govs, Robertson and sophomore McKenzie Dixon each tallied two shots to lead the team.

In net, freshman Mary Parker Powell started and took the loss for APSU, but made a great save in the 14th minute to deny TCU of a point-blank scoring chance. Junior Lindsey Todd played the final 45 minutes, making three saves with one goal allowed.

The Govs will fly home in preparation for their final nonconference match of the season – hosting Chattanooga at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field at 1:00pm, Sunday.
