Titans Look To Rebound From Another One Score Loss

Tennessee TitansThis is the second consecutive road game for the Titans and the third road trip in the first five weeks of the season. Last week they were in Houston, where they dropped a 27-20 decision to the Texans.

In the loss to the Texans, the Titans found themselves for the third straight week driving inside the final two minutes for the game-tying or go-ahead score. They were successful in Week 2 at the Detroit Lions, but in the last two weeks they turned the ball over on downs to spoil their chances.

In the loss to the Texans, the Titans came back from a 14-0 deficit to tie the score at 20-20 in the third quarter. However, Houston’s Will Fuller V provided the game-winning score with a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Running back DeMarco Murray accounted for both of Tennessee’s touchdowns. Murray scored on a two-yard run and then a one-yard plunge into the end zone in the second quarter and now has five total touchdowns (three rushing, two receiving) in 2016, which puts him in a tie for second place in the NFL. He is the only NFL player this season with multiple rushing touchdowns and multiple receiving touchdowns.

Murray has 496 scrimmage yards through four weeks, which ranks second in the NFL behind only Arizona’s David Johnson (510). In franchise history, Murray’s total through the team’s first four games of the season ranks fifth, trailing only Chris Johnson (551 in 2009), Charlie Hennigan (543 in 1963), Sid Blanks (509 in 1964) and Earl Campbell (499 in 1979).

Last week’s game marked the 16th start of Marcus Mariota’s career. In the contest, he passed for 202 yards, pushing his career total to 3,743 yards. In doing so, he broke George Blanda’s franchise record for the most passing yards in a player’s first 16 games with the team. Blanda compiled 3,732 passing yards in his first 16 starts with the Oilers from 1960–1961.

After they return from Miami, the Titans will play three straight home games in an 11-day period.

The Cleveland Browns visit Nissan Stadium on October 16th, followed by the Indianapolis Colts on October 23rd and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, October 27th.

Miami Dolphins

Miami DolphinsThe Dolphins are the Titans’ second consecutive opponent with 10 days to prepare for the contest. They were in Cincinnati last week for a Thursday night battle with the Bengals and fell by a final score of 22-7.

Miami began the season with one-score losses at Seattle (12-10) and New England (31-24). In Week 3, the Dolphins hosted Cleveland and won 30-24 in overtime.

Against Cincinnati, quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 15 of 25 passes for 189 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kenny Stills.

Miami is in its first season with Adam Gase as head coach. He was hired after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2015 and the previous six years with the Denver Broncos. Gase’s staff includes three former Titans assistant coaches: linebackers coach Matt Burke, wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson and senior defensive assistant/pass rush specialist Jim Washburn.
