APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Work began Monday on a significant change to Austin Peay State University’s Raymond C. Hand Park as Morgan Contractors, Inc. began removing the dugouts at the Governors baseball field.

The project will replace the current facilities which were built when the park moved to its current location in the early 1970s.

The updated dugouts will be built to give teams more space and improve the accommodations available to both teams.

In addition, they will be reoriented to provide teams a better view of the playing surface and newer safety features will be installed.

The project was made possible by the generous donations of the Hand Family, who are longtime supporters of the Governors baseball, Govs baseball alumnus Doug Downey and the family of James Corlew Sr., who also is a Governors baseball alumnus.

“I want to thank everyone who has given gifts to make this project possible,” said Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. “It is through the generosity of our community partners and alumni we can undertake projects that allow us to improve our facilities and programs so they can continue to compete at a national level.”

The project, which is the first phase of a larger facility enhancement plan, is scheduled for completion prior to the start of the Governors 2017 schedule, which begins February 17th at Raymond C. Hand Park.
